How to Find Webcam Drivers

To run any device or peripheral connected to a computer, the proper drivers must be installed before the computer will recognize the device. This includes a webcam, even if the webcam is built in. In many cases, finding a webcam driver is as simple as connecting the device to your computer. In other instances, a bit more detective work might be required. The bottom line is there are several ways to find the appropriate drivers. At least one should work for you

Search drivers for your webcam.

Step 1
Connect the webcam to your computer. In many cases webcams have built-in drivers, and the computer will display a message that the drivers are being installed.
Step 2
Insert the disk included with the webcam into the computer's disk tray. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the device's drivers and software.
Step 3
Visit the webcam's manufacturer support site. Enter the webcam's model number, which should be printed somewhere on the camera. Many companies offer drivers for their products directly on their support sites. You may have to do a bit of searching. Identify the driver you need and follow the instructions on the website for downloading and installing the driver.
Step 4
Update your computer while the camera's connected. Open the "Start" menu. Click on "All Programs" and choose "Windows Update." Click "Check for updates" and choose to install any updates.
